Azerbaijan’s SOCAR does not plan purchase of Ukrainian oil refineries

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) does not
plan to gain oil refineries in Ukraine, SOCAR President Rovnag
Abdullayev said at the opening of the first SOCAR petrol station in
Kiev, PRIME-TASS reports.

Abdullayev believes that Ukraine has high refinery productivity and
there is no need to build new ones. However, SOCAR is not abandoning
plans for construction of refineries in Ukraine or involvement in
existing plants.

SOCAR is a state company in Azerbaijan. It extracted 7.28 million tons
of oil and 7 billion cubic meters of gas in 2010.

The company is the only maker of oil products in the country. It has 2
oil refineries. SOCAR has petrol stations in Azerbaijan, Georgia and
Ukraine. It is the co-owner of Turkey’s largest petrochemical complex,
Petkim. SOCAR Trading is a branch of the company for oil trading
abroad.
