Turkey to build nuclear power plant in partnership with Russia

Moscow and Ankara have signed an agreement on the joint construction and operation of a nuclear power plant in Turkey, reports RIA Novosti.

Fourteen leading companies took part in the tender on NPP construction in 2008. The Turkish government has approved the project of the Russian-Turkish consortium of companies - "Atomstroiexport", "Inter RAO UES" and the Turkish company Park Teknik.

In November 2009 the tender results were called off due to lack of agreement over prices of energy produced at the NPP. Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko told Turkey's Cihan news agency that the sides have overcome all misunderstandings, and that the Turkish side will not take part in the financing of the project.
