Baku airport to be reconstructed for Eurovision-2012

The Azerbaijan Hava Yollari airline company is reconstructing the
International Airport of Baku named after Heydar Aliyev for the
Eurovision-2012 song contest, deputy head of the air company Sabir
Ilyasov said on Thursday, Trend reports.


Reconstruction of the airport is to be held simultaneously with
construction of a new air complex. Reconstruction will take place in
the airport building itself, as well as the cargo sections and the
surrounding territory.


After construction of the new air complex in 2013 the existing complex
will be used for internal flights.


The new airport will serve three million passengers. It will have an
area of 58,000 square meters. The four-storey building will be of a
triangular shape.


The new terminal will have 18 escalators and 20 passenger elevators.
It will have advanced scientific-technical equipment. The terminal
will meet the highest international standards. The new complex will
allow the arrival of 8 planes simultaneously.


The runway length is 4,000 meters, with a width of 75 meters.
