SOCAR: Europe sees possibility of merging Nabucco and ITGI

European countries are considering combining the two Southern Gas Corridor projects - Nabucco and ITGI (Turkey - Greece - Italy), the president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Rovnag Abdullayev, said on Wednesday, Trend reports.

He said that after a decision is made it will be presented to SOCAR.

Partners are expecting to receive proposals for various pipeline projects prior to Oct. 1 in order to develop the Shah Deniz gas field project in Azerbaijan (including SOCAR).

The project partners of the Shah Deniz field are regarded as a major resource for completing the Southern Energy Corridor. They will make the final decision on the gas transportation project for the most cost-effective proposals, Abdullayev said.

The Southern Corridor is a priority EU energy project to diversify energy supply routes and sources, and increase EU energy security. The Southern Corridor includes the Nabucco gas pipeline, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), White Stream, and ITGI (Turkey-Greece-Italy pipeline).
