South Caucasian Railway to conclude reconstruction of oldest railway bridge in 2012

Armenia will conclude reconstruction of the oldest railway bridge in
Zamalinsky District in 2012, News Armenia reports.


The bridge has been under reconstruction since 2010. Reconstruction is
taking place on both sides.


Kamurdzhshin (Moststroy) is the contractor in reconstructing the
bridge over the Zamanlu Gorge. Director of the contracting company
Ruben Khachatrayn said that it is the first time they have cooperated
with the South Caucasian Railway.


The bridge over Zamanlu Gorge was built in 1898. It is 256 m long and
26 m high. The new railway line will be 161 km long after
reconstruction.


The South Caucasian Railway is a subsidiary of Russian Railways. It is
under concessional management of Armenian Railway, according to a deal
signed on February 13, 2008. Management will continue for 30 years
with a prolongation opportunity of 10 years.
