According to information published on the CIS Executive Committee's official website, the exhibition is organized in order to enhance cooperation between the member-states of the CIS in various fields, including the humanitarian and social spheres.
The organization was founded on 8 December 1991 by the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation and Ukraine, when the leaders of the three countries met at Belovezhskaya Pushcha and signed a Creation Agreement on the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the creation of the CIS as a successor entity to the USSR.
Ten states, including Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, are currently members of the organization.
