Georgia wants to see its goods return to Russian market, but wary of trap

The opening of additional markets for Georgian goods is to be welcomed, but it is necessary to exercise caution when dealing with Russia, Georgian Finance Minister Kakha Baindurashvili said on Wednesday ahead of a cabinet meeting, RIA Novosti reported.

“The acquisition of additional markets for the selling of Georgian products can of course bring only positive results… As concerns Russia – the main thing is to have a consistent approach so that what at first seems a forward step, doesn’t turn out to be a trap,” the minister said.

The issue of the possible return of Georgian goods to the Russian market and the revival of air links is being discussed in Moscow by former Georgian premier Zurab Nogaideli, the leader of the “For A Just Georgia” opposition movement. Nogaideli has been criticized by the Georgian leadership for his attempts to restore ties with Russia.
