The police of Astrakhan have initiated 954 criminal cases and detained
over 1000 poaching-related cases in the last two months, spokesman of
the local police Yelena Malyukova said, RIA Novosti reports.
The special operation, called “Putina”, was held on the Volga River
and the northern part of the Caspian Sea in April-June. The final
results were summed up on Thursday.
775 cases were initiated into poaching, 225 of them against groups of
poachers. The rest are for purchases and sales of fish products and
corruption. Over a third of the poachers were punished.
The police confiscated over 19.7 km of nets and 153 self-made fishing
tackles, each having 100 hooks.
Over 18.8 tons of fish and fish products were confiscated, as well as
75 kg of caviar.
