Georgia expects record harvest

Kakheti Governor Giorgi Gviniashvili said that the region will collect
a record harvest this year, Business Georgia reports.


2.5 tons of barley were collected per hectare last year, this year
they expect 4-5 tons in Signakhi. The governor says that they had
hired more agriculture specialists.


The best wheat harvest was registered in Gurjaani, where the average
rate was 5-6 tons per hectare. Those who followed the agricultural
conditions had 6.1 tons of grain. Chumlati collected 6.8 tons per
hectare, deputy head of the Gamgebeli Municipality of Gurjaani
District, Valery Gorgisheli, said.


Gurjaani District expects 2,500 hectares with 20,000 tons of wheat.


800 hectares of barley will yield about 4-5 tons of harvest per
hectare.


Signakhi Governor Nodar Kochlamazashvili said that renting a harvestor
costs about 85-100 lari per hectare.


The chief agronomist of Lagodekhi, Nikoloz Meskhi, said that high
quality seeds produced the good harvest.


Kakheti had 37,100 hectares of wheat planted, as well as 3,553
hectares of barley. One kg of wheat costs 55 tetri, barley – 60-70
tetri.
