Tatarstan announced mourning for the victims of the river cruiser
Bulgaria on Tuesday, President of the Republic Rustam Minnikhanov
said, Trend reports.
The vessel sunk on Sunday. Minnikhanov arrived at Kuybushevsky point
to meet relatives of the victims. He said that they had received
material support.
Up to 50 children were in the ship's music hall, head of the Tatar
fire service, Marat Rakhmatullin, said. He added that the divers have
not reached the hall yet. Nine bodies have been found.
The Bulgaria had 199 people on board, including 148 passengers and 18
unregistered passengers.
Rescuers saved 50 passengers, 23 out of 33 crew members and 6 out of
18 unregistered passengers.
The head of the Privolzhsky Regional Emergencies Center, Igor Panshin,
says that the vessel turned over, supposedly by a wave. They still
cannot find the captain. The captain's assistant is in shock.
The two-deck vessel was built in Czechoslovakia in 1955. It was
heading from Bolgar to Kazan. It sank in water 20 meters deep, 3 km
away from the shore at the Kuybyshevsky water reservoir.
