Transit through Iran's Aras free trade zone increases 240%

Iraji Hatami, deputy director of the Aras free trade zone (FTZ) in
Iran, said that transit through the Aras FTZ reached $35.883 million,
an increase of 240%, inthe period March 21 - June 21, 2011, compared
to the same period in 2010, Iran News reports.


Transit in the first quarter of 2011 reached 9,733 tons, exceeding the
indicator in 2010 by 104%.


Transit products go to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine,
Turkey, Nakhchyvan, Pakistan, Iraq and Georgia.


12,342 tons of products worth $6.225 million were exported to foreign
states from Aras in Q1 2011. Exports increased by 93%, while the price
of products rose 293%.
