New pipeline will provide Sochi with gas


The construction of the new gas pipeline " Dzhubga -Layarevskoye-Sochi" will be finished in the second quarter this year, and its annual pumping capacity will be 3.8 billion cubic meters of gas.

The project is included in the federal program of the construction of Olympic objects and the development of Sochi. Gas will also go through this pipeline to supply the Adler thermal power plant, which a Gazprom subsidiaries have started building in the Imeretin Valley

On Thursday, at the construction site, the testing of a special insulated coating for the pipeline began. The pipeline will be 177 kilometers long, of which 159.5 kilometers will be go through the Black Sea at a distance of about 4-5 kilometers from the shore.

"The environment is fairly harsh, so special attention is paid to the isolation of welded joints", - Krasnodargazstroy top officials told Itar-Tass.

The first joint of the new pipeline, which goes from the Black Sea town of Dzhubga in the Krasnodar Territory to Sochi, was welded on September 28, 2009. Currently, more than 80% of the necessary overland work has been completed.

"For the new pipeline there are five tunnels that will connect the land and the sea to be completed - two in Tuapse, one in Dzhubga,  one in Novomikhailovskii and one in Kudepsta, where the pipeline will connect with the land," - said the head of the drilling complex Alexander Chukhlov.
