BP-Azerbaijan halts oil pumping on Baku-Supsa line

BP-Azerbaijan, operator of the Baku-Supsa oil export pipeline of
Azerbaijan, stopped oil pumping early this week, Turan reports.

It is a temporary measure. BP-Azerbaijan started modernizing the
Chirag-1 platform to improve security and stability of work. Oil
pumping was stopped for two weeks, PR manager of the company Tamam
Bayatly said.

Chirag-1 extracted about 90,000 barrels of oil daily before
modernization started. It was launched in November 1997 with the
maximum daily extraction rate of 140,000 barrels of oil daily in 2004.

The Baku-Supsa pipeline has a capacity of 150,000 barrels of oil
daily. It was launched on April 15, 1999.
