Russian president permits minor foreign vessels to sail in Russia

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed a federal law on
amendments to Russian internal maritime transport, the Kremlin
reports.

The law was passed by the parliament on June 29, 2011 and the Federal
Council on July 6. It allows foreign vessels to sail in Russia for
sports, cultural and cruising purposes. They must have a maximum of 18
people on board, including the crew.

However, experts condemned the slow procedure of granting permission
for foreign vessels to sail. They believe that it will not benefit
water tourism and economy.
