Armenia plans to construct new geothermal power plant, Director of the
Fund for Renewble Energy of Armenia Tamara babayan said, News.am
reports.
Construction will take place in Jermakhpyur (Syunik Region), Karakar
(Syunik Region) and Gridzor (Gegarkunik Region). Armenia has great
geothermal potential, allowing it to produce about 30 MW.
Geothermal energy is constant, unlike sun and wind energy.
Armenia needs to drill 1-3 km deep. The Geofund of the World Bank is
supporting research. $1.5 million were provided. Power plant
construction will be realized using private investments.Foreign
companies expressed interest.
