Gelenzhik will start takeoffs for planes in the direction of the
mountains on July 19. It will be Russia's second such airport, Yuga.ru
reports.
UTair will make flights at 14.25.
The airport opened in May 2010. It previously only had takeoffs in the
direction of the sea. Wind speeds of over 5metres per second
complicated such flights.
Organization of the new flight direction started in August 2010. The
Aeronavigatsiya state science institute and Geodinamika were invited
to contribute to the project.
Murmansk Airport was the first Russian airport to make takeoffs in
direction of the mountains. It has an annual passenger flow of 100,000
people.
