The German government will provide Armenia with a grant of $ 4 million to create the Shikahogh Biosphere Reserve. A corresponding agreement was signed on July 18 in Yerevan between Armenian Minister of Finance Vatche Gabrielian, Minister for Nature Protection Aram Harutyunyan and representative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Friedel Eggelmayer and representative of the KfW Uwe Ults.
A biosphere reserve - is a specially protected natural area, designed to demonstrate the balanced interaction of man and nature and the concept of environmental sustainability.
The program is designed for 2011-2015 and provides the establishment of small and medium-sized enterprises in the sphere of agriculture and livestock breeding, which will engaged in producing products under the brand name "Biosphere Reserve", as well as assisting in the processing and marketing programs and development of ecotourism.
