South Ossetia will hold a referendum to determine the status of the Russian language in the republic, a related order was signed by President Eduard Kokoity, Yuga.ru reports.
The referendum was initially planned for September 11. South Ossetia passed amendments to the Constitution on the referendum, developed by the Justice Ministry. Justice Minister Tamazi Doguzo. The budget for 2011 takes expenses for the referendum into account.
The bill was developed to finance the referendum. It also allows the president to postpone the referendum by a maximum of 90 days, Res reports.
The Ossetian language is the state language in South Ossetia, Russian is the official language.
