Russian Railways is discussing the electrification of the Tebriz -
Azarshahr railway in Iran, IranNews reports.
The company is negotiating the electrification of the Zareyi station
with 1.5 km and construction of sectioning at Tebriz-Abbasi and
Abbasi-Zareyi terminals.
A contract on Tebriz-Azarshahr, 48 km long, was signed in 2008 as part
of the long-term cooperation memorandum of Russia and Iran signed on
October 16, 2006. Construction started in February 2009. The project
is worth 8.85 million euro. It is a social contract for passenger
transport of students from Tebriz to the Pedagogue University.
Zarubezhstroytekhnologia is a subsidiary company of the Russian
Railways. The Russian company mainly uses own equipment. Russia is
training Iranian specialists at the Rostov State University of
Communication.
