87,702 tons of grain were exported to Azerbaijan in July 2011. The
main grain importer from Russia is Turkey (462,279 tons), then Egypt
(461,857 tons), Kenya (173,374 tons), Italy (172,142 tons), Israel
(144,567 tons), Trend reports.
Azerbaijani population consumes about 3-3.2million tons of grain.
Azerbaijan expects to produce 2.5 million tons. It produced 500,000
tons in 2010. Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories and Kazakhstan are
the main grain suppliers of Azerbaijan.
Sabir Veliyev, head of the section for production and processing of
plant products of the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry, said that
Azerbaijan produced 2.1 million tons and imported 1.4 million in 2010.
1 million tons were unused.
330,000 tons of grain were imported in January-April 2010, 500,00 tons
have been imported, the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee said.
Grain import in the first half year of 2011 increased by 19.14%, to
$137.986 million, which is 3.18% of import in the country.
Flour worth $48.692 million was imported in January-June 2011, which
is 1.12% of import and exceeds the previous year's indicators
83.1-fold.
The government scrapped VAT for flour imports on July 10.
1.3 million tons of grain were imported in 2010.
The Agriculture Ministry said that 268 hectares of wheat were planted
according to June 22, 2011, compared with 551 hectares in 2010.
