Secretary of Russian Security Council visits Iran

Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev has
arrived in Tehran to discuss bilateral cooperation, the regional
situation and the Iranian nuclear program, RIA Novosti reports.

Patrushev was invited by Secretary of the Supreme Council of National
Security of Iran, Said Jalili. There will be two rounds of talks on
August 15-16.

The Russian secretary will meet Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar
Salehi and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on August 16.

Patrushev will discuss the stage-by-stage settlement of the Iranian
nuclear program, proposed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in
July.

The USA and a set of Western states accuse Iran of developing nuclear
arms under cover of peaceful atomic energy. Tehran denies all
accusations and insists that the nuclear program is aimed at
fulfilling demands for electricity.
