US is interested in the visit of Russian Secretary of National
Security Nikolai Patrushev to Tehran and confirms plans for further
contacts with Russia to resolve the Iranian nuclear program,
spokeswoman of the US State Department Victoria Nuland said, RIA
Novosti reports.
Patrushev was invited by Secretary of the Supreme Council of National
Security of Iran Said Jalili. The Russian official will have meetings
on August 15-16. He will meet Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on August 16.
They will discuss stage-by-stage settlement of the Iranian nuclear
program and clarify Iran's activities in the sphere.
The US spokeswoman said that the USA is devoted to peaceful settlement
of the nuclear problem and operates according to resolutions of the UN
Security Council and the six mediators.
