Atomenergoproyekt to determine general plan for construction of Akkuyu nuclear power plant

The general plan for construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant will be developed in autumn 2011, Russian nuclear engineering company Atomenergoproyekt said, RIA Novosti reports.


The company will study the local landscape until November 2011 and will carry out all engineering operations by mid-2012.


A deal on construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant was signed between Russia and Turkey in Ankara on May 12, 2010. The power plant will have four WWER-1200 reactors of the AES-2006 project.
A joint-stock company was organized for the construction.


Atomenergoproyekt is a subsidiary of Rosatom. The company developed projects for Russia, Eastern Europe and CIS states. It is a general designer of nuclear power plants Bushehr in Iran, Kudankulam in India and Belene in Bulgaria. It is currently the designer and general contractor for the Novovoronezhskaya-2 nuclear power plant with two WWER-1200 reactors of the AES-2006 project.
