Russian air accidents double

The number of air incidents involving Russian planes has increased by
53% since 2011, and the number of air accidents has doubled,
Vice-Premier Sergei Ivanov told the state commission for transport and
communication, Interfax reports.


There were 26 air incidents by August 11 and 13 air catastrophes. 81
people died, exceeding the figure of 2010 fourfold.


The Russian Aviation Agency prepared proposals on improvement of
security. All accidents were caused by old planes, usually belonging
to minor companies with a park of 5-6 planes, Ivanov noted.
