Russian oil company Rosneft and US energy giant ExxonMobil on Tuesday signed an agreement on strategic cooperation, including Arctic shelf operations, RIA Novosti reports.
The deal was signed in the presence of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Rosneft President Eduard Khudainatov and ExxonMobil President Neil Duffin.
“This event will be well received by global markets as new horizons will open,” Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with ExxonMobil’s top executives, referring to the company’s operations in Russia’s Arctic and on its deepwater shelf.
Direct investment could amount to 500 billion rubles, the prime minister said.
