The first oil-extracting platform has been installed at Russia's arctic shelf. The platform was built in Sevmash dockyard in the northern Russian city of Severodvinsk on the Pechorskoye Sea, ITAR-TASS reports.

The platform was installed on August 26, but not all the work has been finished yet, the dockyard's director, Valery Borodin, says.

The platform is due to be launched at the beginning of 2012.
