Iran increases number of centrifuges for uranium enrichment

The number of the first generation centrifuges will be increased at the Natanz plant in Iran until the end of the Iranian year, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Firuddin Abbasi said today in an interview with ISNA.

Over the next three years, Iran intends to build several nuclear power plants similar to the Bushehr nuclear plant, said Abbasi.
 
In June 2011, Abbasi announced a threefold increase in the production of enriched uranium at the Ford plant. In September 2009, Iran informed the IAEA about the construction of the Ford plant. In addition, Abbasi said that 164 centrifuges of the new generation will be installed at Natanz and Ford plants.

In November 2009, Iran announced the construction of 10 new plants for uranium enrichment.
