European Stocks drop by 4 percent

European shares extended losses on Monday. Experts are concerned that major economies could be heading for a return to recession, with banks among the biggest fallers as some faced a US lawsuit over toxic mortgage debt.

At 13:55 GMT, the FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares was down 4.3 percent at 908.00 points, Reuters reports. This is one of the most significant European index drops in weeks.
