Arsalan Kasemi, Director of the Iranian National Association of Fish Breeding and Export of Fishing Products, said that Iran plans to increase fish production from 700,000 to 3 million tons (fourfold), Iran News reports.
Iran’s fishing exports have reached $100 million. The 5th five-year development program for 2011-2015 plans to increase production by 1 million tons annually.
About 6.5 kg of fish are consumed per capita annually, the average world indicator is 14 kg. Japan and Spain consume an average of 100 kg per capita.
Kasemi underlined that they need advanced promotion of fish products. He pointed out that at least 350 meals may be made with fish, while only 3 or 5 of them are popular in Iran.
