EU to negotiate construction of Trans-Caspian pipeline

The European Union proposed talks with Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan for construction of the Trans-Caspian pipeline, Trend reports.

The pipeline is a major project of the Southern Gas Corridor to transport gas to Europe, EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger said.

Head of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and Gunther Oettinger met in Baku and Ashkhabad in early January 2011.

The Trans-Caspian gas pipeline will be 300 km long. It will be part of Nabucco. Negotiations on construction of the pipeline have been ongoing since late 1990s.
