Iran to save Lake Urmia

The Iranian vice president and head of the Environmental Protection, Mohammad Javad Mohammadizade, has announced that soon Iran is going to launch a project to m ove the waters of the Araz River in the direction of Lake Urmia, Trend reports, referring to the official website of the Iranian state television channel, irib news reports.

Mohammad Javad Mohammadizade said that the project will be funded by the private sector.

If Iran intends to use the waters of the Araz in order to prevent Lake Urmia from dying, this issue must be discussed with the Azerbaijani side, the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Huseyn Bagirov, told reporters on September 7.
