The Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District, Alexander Khloponin, met Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to discuss the achievements of the North Caucasus. The region increased its GDP by 11% and industrial output by 13%, RIA Novosti reports.
The republics of the NCFD provide 8% of Russian agricultural products. Retail business increased by 6%, as well as services.
Khloponin believes that improvement of employment levels allowed these figures to be achieved. Three federal programs in the region reduced registered unemployment by 23%, according to figures of July 1, 2011.
There are 358,000 unemployed people registered, compared with 460,000 in 2010.
