Azerbaijan wants to host Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017

Azerbaijan filed a bid to host the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017, Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee and the Organization for Sports Solidarity of the Islamic Games, Chingis Guesynzade, told Trend.


The games will be held in Indinesia, Jakarta, in 2013. The Islamic Solidarity Games are held once in every four years. The previous games were held in Saudi Arabia on April 9-19, 2005.


Azerbaijan has the Organization Committee for Olympic Games 2020 in Baku. It plans to attend a session of the International Olympic Committee. The IOC opened in early September 2011 and approved Baku as a possible candidate for the games in 2020. Other candidates are Madrid, Rome, Tokyo, Istanbul and Doha.
