Azerenergy, a state company for production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan, plans to increase output by 1,400 MW by late 2012, head of its investment section Rafael Abbasov said at the Power Generation World Caspian 2011 conference in Baku today.
Azerbaijan produces 6,500 MW. Output has recently been increased by 2,300 MW by reconstruction and modernization.
A 20%-increase will be available with launch of Janub power plant in Q3 2011, construction of the second combined cycle-plant.
Azerenergy has over 200 substations with a power of 500, 330, 220 and 110 KW, 6 dams and 13 thermal power plants.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev founded the Shimal power plant in Shuvelan Village of Khazarsky District on September 21. The power plant will produce 409 MW. Aliyev told the local staff that Azerbaijan had built 11 power plants, 9 thermal power plants and 2 dams since 2006. He underlined that the facilities increased output by 1500 MW.
Azerbaijan built facilities producing about 4,000 MW in the last years, the president said. The goal to provide every house with electricity was set 6-7 years ago. Today Azerbaijan fulfills all demands for electricity and exports it, Ilham Aliyev said.
