Azerbaijan plans to increase gas extraction to 50 billion cubic meters annually by 2025, Khoshbakht Yusifade, Vice-President of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) for geology, geophysics and development of fields, said, Trend reports.
Azerbaijan consumes 11-12 billion cubic meters of gas. It would have about 35 billion extra cubic meters.
Azerbaijan has about 2.55 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves, Yusifzade said. Gas is transported to Turkey, Georgia, Russia and Iran. The Southern Gas Corridor is considered a promising gas route and is a priority for the EU. The gas corridor is intended to diversify routes and sources of gas and improve EU energy security.
The Southern Gas Corridor includes the following pipelines: Nabucco, the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), ITGI (Turkey-Greece-Italy pipeline) and White Stream.
