Russia urges Iran to stop increasing uranium enrichment

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called on Iran to stop producing centrifuges for uranium enrichment. In exchange, Russia will not approve new sanctions against Iran in the Security Council or unilaterally, CNN reports.

The international community needs to enforce the nuclear non-proliferation regime rather than an overturn of power.

The recent report of the IAEA shows that there are positive changes. The deputy head of the IAEA visited Iran and was shown some facilities closed to inspectors. Iran has been declining all attempts to inspect its nuclear facilities.

Foreign Minister Lavrov met his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi. They approved the Russian plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. Russia offered Iran to fulfil the demands of the IAEA stage-by-stage, so that the Security Council could gradually lift sanctions.
