China, Iran sign memorandum of understanding on Mashkhad-Gorgan railway

CMIC, a Chinese import and export company, has signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of the Mashkhad-Budzhnurd-Gorgan railway with the Iranian Ministry for Roads and Transport, Iran News reports.


The railway will be 655 km long. It will connect the administrative centers of Khorasan-Razavi, Northern Khorasan and Golestan. A spokesman of the Chinese company said in an interview in Beijing that the memorandum was signed after two years of negotiations and consultation. The sides will exchange documents within 2 months.


The Mashkhad-Bordzhnurd-Gorgan railway speed will be 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for cargo trains. There are no obstacles for construction, experts say.
