Bayerngas to join Nabucco

Bayerngas (Germany) plans to become the seventh shareholder of the Nabucco gas pipeline, the Nabucco Gas Pipeline International said today. Negotiations with other shareholders will start in the near future.


The issue will be discussed at a meeting between Austrian Minister of Economy Reinhold Mitterlehner and his Bavarian counterpart Martin Zeil in Vienne on Friday.


Managing Director of the Nabucco Gas Pipeline International Rienhald Mitchek said that Bayerngas’s share will be a great step for Nabucco.


The Nabucco gas pipeline will transport gas from the Caspian Sea and the Middle East to EU states.

Construction of the 3900-kilometer pipeline will start in 2013, first gas supplies are expected in 2017. The pipeline will have a cap of 31 billion cubic meters annually. Its shareholders are OMV (Austria), MOL (Hungary), Bulgargaz (Bulgaria), Transgaz (Romania), Botas (Turkey) and RWE (Germany).
