The EU is interested in a trilateral format of control for uninterrupted supplies of Russian gas to the EU via Ukraine. However, there is no talk about a consortium in the narrow sense of this word, EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger said after a meeting with the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, which was held late yesterday evening, RIA Novosti reports.
Ukraine urges Russia and the EU to create a tripartite consortium to manage the Ukrainian GTS. Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said that this will increase the reliability of energy transit to Europe.
Last week, Azarov said that Russia has agreed to a tripartite consortium with Ukraine and the EU. Later, the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, said in response that the company does not consider creating a consortium to manage the Ukrainian gas transport system to be a priority.
