EU wants Kazakhstan to join Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project

The European Union has invited Kazakhstan to join the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project, European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger said at the 6th Eurasian Forum KAZENERGY in Astana today, Trend reports.


Oettinger said that the pipeline would be a significant contribution to development of the Southern Gas Corridor. The EU also proposed an international deal for the project.


The EU believes that Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan may join the European market via the Trans-Caspian pipeline. It welcomes investments and new transport opportunities to join European markets. The new gas corridor will provide opportunities for exports.
