Turkey to continue drilling in Black Sea

The Turkish Oil and Gas Corporation has decided to continue drilling at the Surkmene-1 borehole in the Black Sea, Trend reports.


The first stage includes drilling a 4800 m borehole. The process is being realized by Exxon Mobil (USA).
Turkey is exploring the Black Sea for oil fields. Turkey wants to fulfil its oil demands by 2023, the year when it marks the 100th anniversary of its independence. Recent exploration has been held in the Sinop District. However, the results were fruitless.


Turkey and Northern Cyprus started exploration for oil and gas in the exclusive economic zone. The president of Northern Cyprus, Dervis Eroglu, signed a deal on exploration for oil and gas in New York City.
