Austrian President Heinz Fischer arrived in Turkmenistan last night, Trend reports.
He will have a summit on October 13. The two states plan to reach agreements on improving cooperation.
One of the main topics is the fuel and energy sphere. Turkmenistan is devoted to a policy of diversifying export routes for energy carriers, including the European route. Austria is interested in cooperating in this sphere.
Deals signed by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Austria in November 2008 will play an important role in this aspect of relations.
Local media report that Turkmenistan and Austria are opening a wide field of activities, such as cooperation in industry, trade, transport and communications and high technologies. A joint Turkmen-Austrian commission and bilateral forums will play a significant role in the context.
