Moscow Mayor urges to fight illegal migration

Half of immigrant workers in Moscow are illegal, the mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, said today in a broadcast "Posner" on Channel One. The mayor has repeatedly stated the need to combat illegal migration, RIA Novosti reports.

Sobyanin said that illegal workers are profitable for construction companies, as they allow them to pay them low salaries without paying any taxes. This situation makes it hard for legal workers to compete with illegal immigrants. In order to solve the problem Sobyanin called for construction companies to be supervised for an illegal work force and "force them to pay what it takes."
