World Bank to issue Armenia $18 million for irrigation

The World Bank has passed another loan worth $18 million for Armenia to improve irrigation in the country, ITAR-TASS reports.


The project is to improve water economy and open new workplaces. It will restore and reconstruct the irrigation system with an area of 6,500 hectares. Water losses will drop by 44.2 million cubic meters, or $1.4 million. Realization of the initiative will benefit over 88,000 farmers and increase harvests, WB Director for South Caucasus, Asad Alam, underlined. The loan is granted for 25 years, starting in 2011.
