The Shah Deniz Consortium will take a decision within a year to choose a route for Azerbaijani gas exports to Europe, Rovnag Abdullayev, Head of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), told journalists on Saturday, Trend reports.
He said supplying gas to Europe through Turkey's existing infrastructure is a complex process and thus the possibility of constructing a new gas pipeline on this country's territory is being explored.
A feasibility study will be drafted under this alternative route, Abdullayev said. The study will determine if the project is economically expedient.
Abdullayev said possible construction of a new gas pipeline will not prevent implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor projects, particularly Nabucco.
