Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline operation halted over illegal tapping

Transneft has stopped pumping oil through the Baku-Makhachkala-Novorossiysk pipeline over an illegal tapping, press secretary of the company Igor Demin says, RIA Novosti reports.

An oil leakage started between villages of Karl Marx and Vinogradnoye at the Kizlyar District of Dagestan. About 5 cubic meters of fuel leaked covering 30x35 square meters.

Pumping is expected to start in 3 hours.

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) will sell two portions of oil equivalent to 210,000 tons from Russia’s port Novorossiysk in November.

SOCAR exported about 1.54 million tons of oil in January-October, compared with 1.78 million tons in January-October 2010.

SOCAR exported about 2.24 million tons of oil via the northern route last year, compared with 2.5 million tons in 2009.

SOCAR exported about 1.2 million tons of oil in 2008, 1.2 million tons in 2007, 1.2 million tons in 2006, 1.6 million tons in 2005.

AMOK, the Azerbaijani international operating company, was operating the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline until 2007. It passed the authority to SOCAR after that.
