Vagif Sharifov: "Southern Corridor" and "Nord Stream" are not competitors

A new route for deliveries of Russian gas to European consumers was introduced today by the opening of the underwater pipeline "Nord Stream".

As previously reported by Vestnik Kavkaza, the ceremony dedicated to the event was held at the German Baltic Sea coast in Lubmin. The symbolic gate was hyped by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte and the French Prime Minister Francois Fillon.

An expert of the International News Agency Trend, Vagif Sharifov, expressed his opinion on the diversification of routes of gas deliveries to Europe in the context of the Nord Stream opening in an interview to Vestnik Kavkza. Sharifov said that the commissioning of Nord Stream will not fundamentally change the situation on the big European gas market, because Nord Stream will only be able to supply a part of the European market and will not affect South-Eastern Europe, which will be left in the sphere of the South Stream pipeline project.
