Azerbaijan is a big friend and strategic partner for Hungary in the South Caucasus, Hungarian President Schmitt Pal told Trend.
The president spoke about such joint projects of Hungary and Azerbaijan as the Southern Gas Corridor, Nabucco and AGRI. The sides have opportunities for further development of cooperation in the non-energetic sphere, he said.
Schmitt said that he will be assisted by 50 businessmen on his visit to Baku. He will attend the second session of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation and a set of other meetings.
Relations will be improved in politics, economy, energy, technologies, culture, education, tourism, contacts between peoples. One of Hungary’s goals is diversification of sources and routes for energy resources, especially gas. Azerbaijan may play the key role in the issue.
Hungary supports Azerbaijan in its European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Hungary welcomes Azerbaijani talks on EU association and cooperation with NATO.
Concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Hungary sees need for progress in the peace process basing on the international law. Sustainable settlement of the issue may be achieved via peaceful means with account of territorial unity and sovereignty of interested states, Schmitt Pal concludes.
