Bulgaria hopes to receive 1 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas

Possible Azerbaijani gas supplies amounting to 1 billion cubic meters a year will be discussed during the Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov's official visit to Azerbaijan, Trend reports. Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov's visit to Azerbaijan will begin on Nov.14.

As President Parvanov said at a press conference in Bulgaria the day before, he would visit Azerbaijan together with Economy, Energy and Tourism Minister Traicho Traikov to discuss gas deliveries to Bulgaria.

"One billion cubic meters of natural gas will be supplied to Bulgaria. We can use this resource in our economy and sell it on other markets," he said.

In 2009, Azerbaijan and Bulgaria signed a memorandum to supply 1 billion cubic meters of gas. The possibility of supply of the compressed Azerbaijani gas to Bulgaria is under consideration.

The 10 billion cubic meters of gas that Azerbaijan intends to sell on the European market in the second phase of development of the Shah Deniz gas condensate field can also be supplied via the South-Eastern Route (SEEP), a senior SOCAR representative told Trend earlier.

The South-Eastern route envisages gas transportation through existing or expanded infrastructure of Turkey to the Balkan Peninsula, and then the distribution of ten billion cubic meters to small buyers, including Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia and others via the existing gas pipelines system.
