Russia does not rule out legal chances to dispute the third energy package of the European Union, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Shmatko said today, ITAR-TASS reports.
Russia may argue that long-term contracts for Russian gas exports to Europe and related investment obligations and guarantees to consumers were signed long ago.
The minister added that the Russian initiative on the trans-border status of new gas pipelines (Nord Stream and South Stream) had a positive response from the European Union, although without any legal acts. The European Union proposed the new proposal to be a supplement to the new basic agreement between Russia and the EU, which lasts 2-3 years, Shmatko underlines.
